The Mini you see here has six doors. Not three, not four but six. It’s called the Clubman and for the first time in Mini’s history, it will be launched in India on December 15. Revealed globally last year, it’s aimed at offering a premium blend of practicality, style and driving pleasure.
Like most generation changes, the all-new Clubman has more carpet area than before – it is 270mm longer and 90mm wider, even the wheelbase has grown by 100mm. According to Mini, while the new dimensions add a certain level of maturity to the Clubman, it has also updated the suspension for better agility, giving it the go-kart thrill typically associated with a Mini.
This six-door Mini still has the uniquely identifiable split doors at the rear and five fully-fledged seats, while offering plenty of space for typical Indian families. The newly designed interior is most noticeable by the broad instrument panel among other changes in terms of the LED display, instrument cluster and phone functions.
Internationally, the Mini Clubman is offered with six engine options, however, for our market the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel with 147bhp and 330Nm makes better sense. But then, we won’t be surprised if Mini also pulls out the hot Cooper S Clubman from its hat.
There’s no official word on the prices yet, but since the Countryman is priced at Rs 35 lakh, we expect the “bigger” Clubman to cost around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom) in its base avatar.
