Maruti Suzuki Ignis

The 2016 Auto Expo saw Maruti Suzuki unveil its sub-compact crossover, Ignis, which is one of the most awaited upcoming cars in India. Set to compete in a relatively new segment of sub-4 metre SUV-styled cars, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will mainly compete with the recently launched Mahindra KUV100. The upcoming car features tall proportions and a heavily stylized front fascia which includes large U-shaped LED DRLs in the head-lamp units that are infused with the front grille.

Sharing most of its design cues with the Japanese-spec model, the India-bound Ignis comes with some SUV-like traits like the flared wheel arches, a 180mm ground clearance, and Suzuki’s All Grip AWD system (expected). Other features expected to be borrowed from the global model include – USB/AUX-IN and Bluetooth equipped media system, Suzuki’s adaptive Dual Camera Braking System (DCBS), hill decent control, and camera equipped front and rear parking sensors. ABS and EBD is likely to come as standard fitment, while Maruti will offer dual front airbags right from base variant. Under the hood the Ignis is expected to get the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel and possibly a 1.2-litre petrol engine as well. There are also talks about a performance-spec Ignis with the 1.0-litre BoosterJet mill. Transmission duties will likely be performed by either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT unit.

Expected Launch: March, 2017
Expected Price: ₹ 6.5 lakh – ₹ 8.5 lakh
